An invitation has been extended to our Troop by Packmaster Tarrant to join Pack 53 for their year-end closing ceremony which will be held on Saturday, June 13th at Fahnestock State Park.

We have been invited to build the ceremonial fire. This will also be a great opportunity for any scout who needs to “pitch a tent and sleep in it overnight” to fulfill the requirement to advance in rank.

Please speak with your scout/parent and save this date and participate with your Troop. Various events are planned during the day, which usually includes a hike. A head count is necessary so that we are able to plan meals.

Please come out and support your Troop and our Cub Scout organization.

Minutes from Tuesday, May 19th’s Meeting

Today is a wonderful day. I am pleased to announce the Troop has earned a FREE cabin at Durland Scout Reservation (Clear Lake). We get to choose the weekend. One hundred percent (100%) of our Troop participated in the Friends of Scouting (FOS) Fund Drive. Congratulations!

This Monday, May 25th is Memorial Day

There will be a parade at Town Hall. Our Troop is requested to appear at 10:15AM and assist in setting up chairs for the event. Please wear your Class A Uniform – look sharp.
The bugler for Taps will be our Life Scout Andrew.

    Campership Forms

Please turn in your Camp Scholarship Form for Summer Camp and a check payable for $50 to Troop 353, no later then next TUESDAY, May 26th. Council’s deadline is June 1st and our Scoutmaster needs to review and sign each form. Parents can bring them to the parade and Mrs. Gallo will accept them there.

    Service Time – VFW Cleanup

Our SPL Anthony is preparing a list of those scouts who participated in the Spring Clean Up at the VFW last week. An official record of this service time will be kept and is necessary for all scouts to move up in rank. Community service is required in school, scouting and religious organizations. Stay involved – help out often.

Pack 53 – Cub Scout Closing Ceremony

Packmaster Tarrant has extended an invitation to our Troop to join them on Saturday, June 13th to conclude their year in scouting. The weekend will be filled with activities and hikes, which will end with a bonfire and skits. This is generally a fun filled event and we look forward to a beautiful evening.

    Ten Mile River Canoe Trip

Our end of the year event is planned for Friday, June 26th, 27th and 28th. The Troop will conclude our year in scouting at the Arch Bridge Campsite part of Ten Mile River Boy Scout Reservation in Narrowsburg, New York. This campsite has been used by our Troop for the past 5+ years and is situated directly at the end of our canoe trip – walking distance to your tent. Mr. Gibbs is investigating the rental fee for a kayak, canoe or raft and we should have our menu and costs shortly. An invitation has been extended to Second year Webelos to join the fun. Please add your name to our growing list – Call SPL Anthony (845) 528-3245.

    Pizza/Pool Party

Mr. Gibbs has been generous to host a pool party at his house each summer prior to summer camp. Please watch for date and time to be announced. Bathing suits and towels are required – bring your appetite and your medical forms.

Our VFW Clean-Up was a wash-out.

At 12:50PM Will and I headed towards the VFW. We met SPL Anthony and his Mom and waited in the parking lot. As we sat and waited, the drizzle turned into a constant rain. When Daniel and his Dad showed up and we decided to call it a “rain-out” since the grass could not be cut and nobody else showed up or called.

Communication is important to Scouting.

Please take a few moments and check your email. Please call the telephone number of the person in charge of the activity and let them know YES or NO.

If Weather Permits: We are looking to take sometime out of our schedule on TUESDAY – if it is not raining – and cut the grass and do some general clean-up around the VFW. Bring your gloves and a rake.

Reminder:

TUESDAY is the First Tuesday of the month. Please wear your Class A uniform.

Minutes from Tuesday, April 27th Meeting

Those scouts in attendance were Mark, Shane, David, Daniel, Jelani, Will, Chris, Troy, Andrew and Cody. Patrick conducted our meeting in the absence of SPL Anthony. Special thanks goes to Mr. Davidson who graciously received and brought in our Troop’s Class B shirts. Our new scouts were happy to receive their Class B’s.

Now we look like a Troop!

Those scouts who were unable to attend this meeting, your t-shirts are waiting for you – Steven, Vincent, William and Teddy. Hope to see you soon.

Mr. Gorniak and many of our scouts are continuing their work in Environmental Science and are moving towards completing the badge. A few other scouts are working on rank advancement and individual merit badges. Daniel and Chris are completing a few requirements before having their Scoutmaster and Board of Reviews to step up in rank. Way to go!

    SUMMER CAMP

Boys, please talk to your parents about going to summer camp. Unfortunately the Council representative was unable to show the slide show at our meeting, but you can go to the Council website (http://wpcbsa.org). Under the heading “Highlights” is 2009 Boys Scout Summer Camps. On this site you can read what is available and what goes on at camp. We have reserved Week #2, July 12th – 18th at Camp Waubeeka at the Sunrise Site. We have a deadline and it is rapidly approaching.
